Here the Queer Appear is an outdoor, public artwork, made up of 857 flashing beacon lights, each one representing a member of the LGBTQI+ community in the Cork region who signed up online to be part of this constellation, or who asked to be added after experiencing the work.  The artwork wished to represent the mass and presence of the Queer community in Cork through bringing together our unique individuality: each light blinks with its own tiny micro-difference in timing, creating optical effects of clouds of unity followed by images of movement followed by random blinking and patterning. We are together, one community; we are unique: individuals. Each installation was designed and re-adapted to have particular effects in specific spaces - urban central, urban centre adjacent, urban parkland. The Bell’s Field installation was visible from across the valley - to thousands of households.
